Your local and regional Mensa Foundation scholarship chairs are seeking judges!
Each year, Tampa Bay Mensa participates in the Mensa Foundation Scholarship Program. Volunteers must read and judge short essays (550 words or less) for this year’s Program. Last year, there were four winners from the Tampa Bay area.
Local judging
American Mensa’s local chapters assemble judging teams of at least three members to review the applications. The essays are judged on content, grammar, organization, and craftsmanship. The Local Scholarship Chair refers the best local essays to the Regional Scholarship Chair for review.
There are two rounds of judging. Round One is the Elimination Round, where the essays are given only a Yes or a No based on whether the reader believes that they meet the criteria and have a reasonable chance of making it to the final round of judging.
Round Two is the Scoring Round, where readers assign scores based on form, content, and impression.
Volunteers may choose to participate in one round or both. The majority of judges must be members of Mensa, but non-members are also welcome.
Judging will begin on January 16th and must be completed by February 28th.
If you are interested in participating in this season’s judging, please email [email protected].
Thank you so much for your help!
